Psychology / Neurofeedback
At SHIN Wellness, we practice both traditional psychology as well as a technique called Neurofeedback.
Psychotherapy can be used to gain an understanding of behavioral patterns and needs, learn new information about emotional well-being, and explore solutions to deal with problems. Psychotherapy is for all ages since we are born with emotions and experience them our whole lives.
Neurofeedback is a psychotherapeutic treatment to improve brain function and reach peak performance; it helps improve mood, stress level, emotional regulation, anxiety, hyperactivity, attention, distractibility, cognitive processing, repetitive thoughts, sleep, chronic pain, fatigue, migraines, addictions, menopause, and epilepsy.
Neurofeedback also addresses problems of brain dysregulation. These happen to be numerous which can include attention deficits, anxiety-depression spectrum, various sleep disorders, migraines, emotional disturbance/behavioral disorders, PMS and even pain i.e. headaches, neck and low back pain.
Wonderful improvements have also been shown in organic brain conditions such as seizures, autism spectrum disorders and cerebral palsy.
FAQ’s about Neurofeedback
What are some conditions treated with Neurofeedback?
Addictions, Alcoholism, Anger Management, Anxiety, Asperger’s Syndrome, ADD, ADHD, Bruxism, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Chronic Pain, Headaches, Insomnia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Peak Performance Training, and Trichotillomania.
What are some conditions treated with Neurofeedback?
If the problem being addressed is one of brain dysregulation, then the answer is yes, and that covers a lot of ground. Neurofeedback involves learning by the brain and if that brings order out of disorder, the brain will continue to use its new capabilities, and thus reinforce them.
What happens if Neurofeedback clients are taking medication?
With successful Neurofeedback / EEG Biofeedback training, the medications targeting brain function may very well no longer be needed, or they may be needed at lower dosages, as the brain takes over more of the role of regulating itself.
What childhood conditions is Neurofeedback successful in treating?
Neurofeedback has been used to treat seizures and sub-clinical seizure activity, problems of attention and learning, bipolar disorder, autistic spectrum, and much more!
How does Neurofeedback work?
We apply electrodes to the scalp to listen in on brainwave activity. We process the signal by computer, and we extract information about certain key brainwave frequencies. We show the ebb and flow of this activity back to the person, who attempts to change the activity level. Some frequencies
we wish to promote. Others we wish to diminish. Eventually, the brainwave activity is “shaped” toward more desirable, more regulated performance.
The Success Rate of Neurofeedback
Through twenty years of experience with Neurofeedback / EEG biofeedback, we have reached the point of having very high expectations for success in training.
Neurofeedback should work for everybody as our brains are made for learning and to increase skill-acquisition.
At SHIN Wellness we want you to find the root of the problem and then use our services to help improve your brain functions which will help you improve your quality of life.
