Dr. Betina De Souza PsyD
Dr. Desouza has experience with age ranges 2-88 working with mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders, trauma, learning and attention deficit disorders, developmental delays, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, personality disorders, and eating disorders in Miami Children’s Hospital, Psychiatric residential facility, Social service agencies and community mental health centers.
She uses a combination of practices depending on what is needed at the time including Individual, Couples, Family, Play, Sandtray Psychotherapy, Neurofeedback brain training, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Neurofeedback is used to improve brain function and reach peak performance; it helps improve mood, emotional regulation, anxiety, attention, distractibility, and processing, repetitive thoughts, sleep, stress tolerance, chronic pain, fatigue, migraines, addictions, menopause, epilepsy, developmental disorder, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, and Dementia prevention.
Psychotherapy is used to gain an understanding of oneself and behavioral patterns, learn new information about emotional well-being, and explore solutions to deal with problems. EMDR is a certified psychotherapy approach that has been researched and effectively used to reduce symptoms related to Trauma, any event that caused overwhelming fear and had an impact on functioning.
Dr. De Souza sees every client encounter as meaningful and each client as a unique individual with a life story and meaning attached to those experiences. She assesses an individual’s current difficulties on a physical, mental, and emotional level with care and understands these difficulties within the larger context of their life.
She emphasizes an in-depth understanding of the problem in order to recommend the proper combination of treatments to best address the growth of the individual.
